Life-World Policy Institute

Systems Serving Humanity

Foundations

The Life-world Policy Institute is a UK-based organisation founded to examine the relationship between public policy, financial systems, technology and human flourishing. Founded on July 12th, 2026, LWPI provides insightful commentary and analysis on public finance, market regulation, and the role of government and institutions in the face of technological developments. Life-world Policy Institute takes its name from Edmund Husserl’s (1859-1938) ‘lebenswelt’. The life-world is the human sphere; it is the world as we naturally and comfortably inhabit it and experience it as homely. The life-world is our uniquely human way of being in the world. It is the world as we experience it through family, work, culture, and a shared social life. It refers to the essence of what makes human life so special, things like community, subjective experience, understanding and flourishing. Hailing from a critical Liberal perspective, the LWPI addresses contemporary challenges in 21st century public and fiscal policy. The foundational principle of the life-world policy institute is simple:

systems ought to serve humanity.
People created systems like markets and institutions to enrich human life and promote flourishing; to serve human ends. Systems are often indispensable, especially today, and provide tremendous value to all our lives. However, systems sometimes become misaligned from human good and become ends unto themselves and can even work against human good. Wherever systems and the life-world are in tension, the LWPI is interested in examining and addressing this dissonance, to identify practical, achievable solutions to correct misaligned systems and bring them back into the service of humanity.
